Week 1 of Construction

September 21, 2015

We have been under construction for a little less than a week, but the Brennan Company and their subcontractors have been taking full advantage of the good weather and early fall daylight hours to do as much as they can as quickly as possible. In the interior of the building, plaster and Sheetrock are heaped in piles; the restrooms are totally demolished, and the Children's area is one open continuous space. Upstairs the demolition is not as encompassing as the lower level, but the emptiness of the library is still a major change and a bit of a shock. I have been touching base at the deconstructed library with the building superintendent several times a week to answer any questions they might have, take photos, get to know the contractor and subcontractors and observe the progress. Tomorrow will be our first under-progress construction meeting; we will be meeting weekly, since the project schedule is fairly concentrated.

Just for fun I have added a cropped photo of one of the library's paintings from John Maakestad entitled "Jubilate"; we are thinking of adding its image to some of the library graphics, with permission from the Maakestad family. It is a joyously active work that for us, represents the colors and movement of the library renovation.
