Out for Bid!
June 25, 2015
It feels a bit surreal to realize that we have reached this point-- the Construction Documents have been revised, approved by the City Council (unanimously!) to be issued for bid, our finance funding is approved, and as of last Friday, the Construction Documents are now actually out for bid! Thinking back to last May when we began with architect selection, I have to say that there have been several turns in the road that sometimes have given us pause, and sometimes given us cause for celebration. All of these-- the challenges and the celebrations-- have made for a better project.
The support from the citizens of Northfield has been key to the success of this project. From contacting City Councilors in order to voice support, to contributing to a phenomenal capital campaign-- $1.35 million of the project budget has come from private donations-- this has truly been the best of a public/private partnership in making this project a reality.
Our last major hurdle before we break ground will be when our bids come in. The architects, their consultants and City staff and done a tremendous job of reviewing costs and plans prior to issuing the Construction Documents for bid to ensure the best possible outcome in this process.
Come join us on Thursday, July 2 for treats, remembrances and a fond farewell to the library as it looks today, and catch a glimpse of the future library, opening in Spring of 2016.
